Last weekend I threw a shower for some good friends who are getting married at the end of this month. My best advice for keeping a shower from being lame and boring? Add a theme! This was a coed shower for our group of friends who like to play board games - so we chose that as the theme. I already posted an overview of the party with some of the activities, so check that out here.
I had lots of help with the food, which was a huge blessing! My contribution was the sandwiches - chicken salad and tuna salad on two different kinds of bread (rye & wheat).
I cut the crusts off and arranged them in a checkerboard pattern. The morning of the party, I came up with another idea that I didn't have time to execute, but thought that instead of the two types of bread, you could use two types of cheese on top. Just another idea of how to make this work!
To garnish the sandwiches, I made "chess pieces" out of pickles, olives, tomatoes & celery. They turned out super cute!
Karen brought a Veggie Tray with each of the veggies coordinating with Settlers of Catan.
Meredith made a scrabble board using crackers, cheese spread & letter pretzels.
Shiffra made fun "Spoons" themed cupcakes. Some had spoons sticking out of them, the rest had Playing card suits drawn on the top.
Kaleena brought Twister themed candies - M&M's, Skittles & Gum Balls arranged in a muffin pan (which was also part of her gift for the couple).
Ester crafted a Jenga tower out of different flavors of cheese.
I was super impressed with everyone's creativity, and it all tasted amazing!
Comment and let me know what you think and/or if you try any of these ideas for yourself! Also, we made it so that you can "follow" us now...so check that out!
Grace and love,
